Dr. Rosa Gómez Rodríguez

I graduated in 2008 as a Medical Doctor from the Latin American School of Medicine - ELAM in Havana, Cuba. Upon returning to my country, I practiced medicine for over 6 years in programs focused on promoting and preventing non-communicable chronic diseases related to cardiovascular risk and diabetes mellitus, as well as in prenatal control programs assessing risk in pregnant women. In 2018, I completed my specialization as a medical specialist in Physical Activity and Sports Medicine at the Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud - FUCS in Bogotá.

My sports medicine career began in Spain, where I was part of the medical team for the RCD Espanyol football club in Barcelona in 2018, serving as the team doctor for the women's first division. Returning to Cúcuta in 2018, I joined the Medical Area of Club Médico Deportivo Bodytech, a renowned health-focused fitness center. I also serve as a sports physician for the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program at Servicios Especializados del Corazón. Additionally, I coordinate the Obesity Program at this institution, leading an interdisciplinary team for comprehensive management of this condition. I am officially listed as a health professional with SCOPE certification, the internationally recognized certification for obesity management.

My expertise lies in creating exercise programs for chronic conditions such as overweight, obesity, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and sarcopenia. I focus on improving physical condition for individuals who require exercise prescription from a specialist.

In 2020, I founded Home Fit Trainer, my company that provides personalized in-home functional training. My goal is to bring the benefits of physical exercise to every home in my city, reducing barriers to accessing specialized and professional trainers.

My role as a lecturer at the University of Pamplona, based in Villa del Rosario, has been my latest challenge. Recognizing the importance of sports medicine in physical education and recreation, I emphasize that it cannot be isolated from the activities of coaches, physical education teachers, and leaders. I aim to contribute my experience to comprehensive, multidisciplinary work in this vital area for maintaining health and enhancing athletic performance.

My next project is to complete my specialization in Lifestyle Medicine, which I began with the Latin American Lifestyle Medicine Association (LALMA). This endeavor reflects my belief and commitment to promoting health, preventing chronic diseases related to lifestyle, and building communities with greater physical and mental well-being.

My sports medicine consultation includes cardiovascular and musculoskeletal risk assessment for exercise, anthropometry using electrical impedance and skinfolds, clinical evaluation of flexibility and muscular strength, clinical postural assessment, and personalized exercise prescription. For high-performance sports, I conduct comprehensive sports medical evaluations. Furthermore, for postural alterations or spinal pathologies, I am skilled in holistic chiropractic, cupping, and kinesiotaping.
