Dr. Jose Benjamin Navarro Burgos

I am Dr. Benjamin Navarro, a General Surgeon supra-specialized in Liver, Kidney, and Pancreatic Transplant Surgery, as well as Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. I am an expert in benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tracts. My primary focus is on the management of liver, pancreatic, and biliary tract cancers.

Throughout my professional and academic career, I have participated in over 300 liver transplants, more than 200 hepatic resections, over 80 pancreatic resections, and more than 50 biliary reconstructions.

This experience has established me as a renowned supra-specialized surgeon in Liver Transplant and Hepatology. I specialized in General Surgery at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia. I completed supra-specialization in Liver Transplant at the University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada, and further supra-specialization in Liver Transplant (both cadaveric and living-related donor) at Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea. I also trained in Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery, Pancreatic, and Renal Transplant at Samsung Medical Centre. My qualifications are validated by the Colombian Ministry of National Education as a Specialist in Intra-abdominal Organ Transplant. Additionally, my scientific contributions include extensive experience in clinical, biomolecular, and experimental research, holding a Master's in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, also validated by the Colombian Ministry of National Education.

I am known for my thorough evaluation of patient conditions to achieve accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatments, including comprehensive post-operative follow-up. I aim to reduce morbidity and mortality risks in hospital-university settings for patients with liver, pancreatic, and renal failure by employing innovative techniques, such as vascular microsurgery using a surgical microscope to facilitate anastomosis of very small caliber hepatic arteries.

I have received recognition as a Provider of High Quality and Excellent Patient Care, utilizing scientific skills and knowledge, at the Central Police Hospital, Bogota. My awards include the Best Oral Presentation at the Korean Surgical International Symposium, a Travel Award from the Korean Surgical Society, Seoul, South Korea; a Travel Award at the 2013 International Single Topic Symposium, South Korean Hepato-Biliary Surgery, Chiongju, South Korea; the 2009 Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) NSERC awarded by the Federal Government of Canada; the 2009 Lawson Health Research Institute Scholarship, Ontario, Canada; the 2009 Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarship, University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada; and the 2009 Faculty of Medicine Scholarship, University of Western Ontario, Ontario.
