Do any of these symptoms apply to you?

If any of these situations feel familiar, a consultation could be the right first step.

  • Scattered attention: "I start many tasks, but I find it hard to finish them, and I get easily distracted."
  • Chronic procrastination: "I put off important things until the pressure is unbearable, even though I know the consequences."
  • Disorganization: "My space, my schedule, and my time quickly become messy, and I feel like I can't control it."
  • Mental hyperactivity: "My head is full of thoughts all at once, and I find it hard to quiet my mind."
  • Impulsivity: "I speak, spend, or decide without thinking, and then I regret it."
  • Years of suspicion: "For years, I've felt like something isn't quite right with how I function, and I wonder if I might have ADHD."

Treatment goals

What we aim to achieve

Results vary by patient. Dr. David Monroy Duque will assess you during the consultation.

Aims to offer you a clear and honest diagnosis, confirming or ruling out ADHD with rigorous clinical criteria.

Can help you understand why you've felt for years that something wasn't working as it should.

Seeks to improve your sustained attention, organization, and time management skills in your daily life.

Aspiras to reduce frustration and self-criticism, providing you with concrete tools for your professional, academic, and personal life.

Aims to support you in managing frequent comorbidities such as anxiety, sleep problems, or mood changes.

Intends to build with you a comprehensive plan that, depending on your case, combines pharmacology, psychoeducation, and collaborative work with psychology.

How it works

  1. 1

Step 1 — Detailed Clinical Evaluation

In the first consultation, we gather a complete clinical history: your functioning since childhood, academic and work context, current symptoms, and family history. I apply validated diagnostic criteria for adult ADHD.

  2. 2

Step 2 — Differential Diagnosis and Plan

Adult ADHD is often confused with anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder — and frequently coexists with them. I conduct a careful differential diagnosis and propose an individualized treatment plan for you.

  3. 3

Step 3 — Ongoing Support and Adjustments

ADHD treatment is a process, not a single event. We conduct periodic follow-ups to measure response, adjust dosages if we use pharmacology, and reinforce behavioral strategies.

The choice

Why choose Dr. David Monroy Duque?

  • I have 15 years of clinical experience as a psychiatrist with a strong focus on adult ADHD and bipolar disorder — two conditions frequently underdiagnosed in Colombia.
  • I am a medical surgeon from Universidad CES and a specialist in Psychiatry from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB).
  • I work with an integrative approach that combines precision pharmacology, psychoeducation, and coordination with psychology when necessary.
  • I conduct a rigorous differential diagnosis to avoid labeling something as ADHD when it isn't, and to ensure ADHD is not overlooked when it is present.
  • I offer in-person consultations in Medellín and provide teleconsultations for all of Colombia.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to be diagnosed with ADHD as an adult if I was never diagnosed as a child?
Yes. Many adults grew up without a diagnosis because their symptoms were interpreted as laziness, disorganization, or simply 'being distracted.' ADHD doesn't appear in adulthood; it's present from childhood but may have gone unnoticed. A careful evaluation can confirm or rule it out.
How is ADHD different from anxiety or just being very busy?
That's precisely the question we address in a consultation. ADHD has specific patterns that are present from childhood, across multiple contexts, and impact your functioning. I conduct a differential diagnosis to distinguish it from anxiety, depression, sleep problems, or sustained stress — which can also coexist with ADHD.
Does treatment always include medication?
Not necessarily. Some patients respond very well to behavioral strategies, psychoeducation, and work with psychology. In other cases, pharmacology can be a useful tool. We make the decision together based on your specific case, your preferences, and the severity of your symptoms.
Are ADHD medications addictive?
Stimulants used for ADHD are well-studied and, when used under psychiatric supervision, do not create dependence in the classical sense. Non-stimulant options are also available. I always discuss openly with you the benefits, risks, and alternatives of each option.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes, I offer teleconsultations for all of Colombia. For the first ADHD consultation, where we need to conduct a complete clinical evaluation, I recommend an in-person visit when possible. Follow-up consultations work very well virtually.
